The adventures of a thoroughly english wine guy...

My journey so far…

Born and raised in a quintessential English village in the heart of Southern England. I embarked upon a career in wine retail in 2008 working for Majestic Wine, the UK’s biggest wine specialist.

During my career from trainee to senior manager I’ve been extremely privileged to have worked alongside so many great people and enjoyed such generous tasting budgets that I’ve developed a true love for wine and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. I’ve been lucky enough to have traveled extensively, through work, exploring the wine regions of Europe and beyond.

Studying for the WSET Diploma in Wine and Spirits was the true eye-opener for me.  Almost every day I learnt about new wines, new producers and new regions. I discovered exciting local wines that rarely sell outside their local markets, therefore go unheralded but are worthy of greater exposure.

The Diploma took 2 years and a considerable amount of tasting ‘revision’ but I’m very proud to say that I walked away with a pass with merit.

After that came my biggest challenge yet…what to do with my skills and knowledge what to do with the rest of my life? After 3 years of soul searching, discussions with friends and family I realised that there were two aspects of my working life that made me happy; a love of wine and a love of traveling.

Now 12 months later, I’ve created Vinotor. A blog about my adventures to enthuse, educate and inspire people to travel and discover wines of the world.

I’ve taken a giant leap into the unknown…quit my job, moved out of my London flat, left everyone behind and am setting off to taste all those wines I’ve read so much about.
