Vinho Verde Muralhas de Moncao

I go to Portugal for the sun, I stay for the Vinho Verde I just can't get enough of this light refreshing wine from Moncao in Northern Portugal.

Vinho Verde or 'green' wine is so called because it's bottled ridiculously young & fresh, so much so that it has tiny bubbles, giving it a delicate effervescence. It's is only 12% abv & an absolute steal at 3€/£2.15/$3.29. Perfect for a warm summers evening.

A Vinho Alvarinho is a serious white wine produced in a tiny subregion of Vinho Verde around Moncao & Melgaco, predominately made from the Alvarinho grape. Whereas the more commonly found Vinho Verde is made from Louriero, Trajadura & Arinto grapes & is a lot lighter in style and alcohol.

Alvarinho is the Portuguese name for Albariño (which produces amazing aromatic wines just over the Spanish border in Galicia) so it creates a wine with more body & riper tropical fruits than your average Vinho Verde.

I'm sure wines such as this always taste better when you're sat relaxing in the sun, enjoying the ambience of its native country. Having said that I am also sure that as long as the sun is shining, Vinho Verde can be enjoyed anywhere!
