Casa da Passarella Oenologo Vinha Velhas (Old Vines) 2011

Steak & Red Wine...is there anything better in life?! It's an unusual occurrence when I find a wine that I love as much as this that I know absolutely nothing about. If you get to Portugal it's well worth keeping your eyes pealed for this little beauty.

It's the first wine I've ever tried from the cooler Serra Da Estrela Mountains (where I am currently staying), a small subregion of the Dao D.O.C.

At over 10€ it's quite expensive but I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

It won a silver medal in the IWSC & Decanter awards so it has been well received but I'm still non the wiser to the grape varieties in the blend...though I assume that Touriga Nacional & Jaen are in there somewhere but otherwise who knows!

The Casa da Passarella Oenologo Vinha Velhas (Old Vines) 2011 is a weighty wine. It has the softness you come to expect from Dao wines but a purity of fruit & elegance you would not.

Opulent red fruits, spicyness, soft tannins & a very credible finish means it's the perfect match for steak. One things for sure I want to pay this producer a visit as its possibly the most 'serious' Dao wine I've ever tried.
