Manz Cheleiros 'Dona Fatima' Jampal

I've fallen in love! BBQ baked Plaice with tomato & basil served with my first ever wine made from 100% Jampal. Hold on Pedro, wait one cotton picking minute, what in the blue hell is Jampal?! I hear you cry & you'd be right. I've not heard of it either.

Turns out there's only one winery who produces it in the entire world!

Manz Cheleiros 'Dona Fatima' Jampal is an epic white wine. A unique grape, that is close to extinction but is still grown on clay limestone soils just above Lisbon in Portugal.

Exotic, rich, citrus fruit aromas marry perfectly with the soft buttery vanilla notes which come from 6 months in oak. A full bodied mouthfeel still retains a good fresh acidity that bring the flavours of grapefruit, green apple peel and vanilla to life. Then the long minerality on the finish is the proverbial icing on the cake.

Potentially my instant and improbable love for this wine stems from its similarities to Chardonnay & White Burgundy or even oaked Viognier.

I'm so impressed I'll definitely seek out a visit to the winery. Although you've probably never heard of it, if you see it, buy it! You won't be disappointed.
