Cheese and wine time

This is how you celebrate handing in your notice!

Belle Époque 2002, Corton Charlemagne 2006, Geyserville 09, Rieussec 04.I'm afraid the tasting notes are a little lacking as we got stuck into the wines in a big way.

What I will say that the 2006 Corton-Charlemagne was everything i hoped for and more. I'm biased as I simply adore top end white burgundy but this wine was truly mind blowing.

Henru Boillot is one my all time favourite producers in Burgundy and this wine exhibits everything that makes his so exceptional. The 2006 vintage was actually quite a warm, big year, meaning that it wont last forever and you'd expect weight and intensity.  This '06 has an opulent nose, rich nutty aromas with hints of cheese.  It has such a rich nose that you'd be forgiven for thinking that it was a new world Chardonnay.

The pallet, on the other hand, screams Grand Cru Burgundy. There is an elegance, a freshness, a leanness on the pallet. Gorgeous flavours of manderin, green apple, lemon, hazelnuts and so much more. The level of complexity is everything you could possibly want and more.  The finish is truly epic and goes on and on for what seems like an eternity leaving you feeling fresh and with a mineral aftertaste. If you get a chance to try Henri Boillot's Grand Cru wines do so, you will not be disappointed.

All matched perfectly with some of my choice picks of French cheese...Morbier, Beaufort, the always outrageous Epoisse and good friends...
