English Sparkling Wine
/We're not just all about tea and biscuits over here....So what better way to celebrate everything the English has to offer than with a English Sparkling wine taste off. I'm not sure how much is exported around the world but it's well worth a try.
With soils and climate very similar to champagne things are hotting up in the English Sparkling wine scene.
Traditional method production, extended ageing, often using the classic champagne grape varieties there are now over 150 UK producers. In recent trade tasting some English sparkling are winning awards even when they're up against their illustrious French rivals.
Personally I would say they're still not quite as good as top vintage champagne, they're getting awfully close!
Chapel Down, Balfour, Camel Valley are all quality producers but for me the Nyetimber Cuvée, in particular, easily holds it's own againt most NV champagne including Moët, Veuve & Taittinger....but not my lovely Bollinger
Get out there & explore, find a bottle, give it a try & discover just what the English have to offer! just stay away from the English still wines....average at best.
