Sparkling Gamay?!
/Sparkling Gamay?!! 'Made by G' by Giles Gelin. I'm so excited about this wine...a long day at work has finished with an amazing discovery smiley Gamey is THE grape of Beaujolais & this is the first sparkling Gamay I've ever seen let alone tasted.
I love Giles Gelin's Beaujolais wines, in particular the Fleurie but this Demi Sec Mousseux is something else. A great Summer picnic wine at only 9% alcohol I urge everyone to try one...if you can find it!n
A ridiculously small production of only 2000 bottles a year, using grapes hand picked from the same 25 year old vines that produce Giles Gelin's excellent Beaujolais Village wine.
Interestingly it's not made from the standard Beaujolais production method of Carbonic maceration, instead fermentation is halted early by reducing the temperature to send the yeast into hibernation.
Then just like Champagne the secondary fermentation takes place in bottle. Serve well chilled snowflake wine. Such a soft fruity wine the fresh fruity nose is awesome!
You could easily be mistaken for thinking it was a Sparkling Shiraz but the taste just blows my mind flushed seriously soft and supple with classic Beaujolais fruit flavours of ripe red cherries, summer strawberries & raspberries.
No tannins though the finish is not that long but It doesn't matter as I keep going back for more! Get involved people.
