Mature Shaw and Smith M3 Chardonnay
/You know it's a good wine when the first thing do is smile. Now I'm struggling to comprehend just how stunning this mature Adelaide Hills M3 Chardonnay by @Shawandsmith truely is...
It has all the classic hallmarks of a decade old Meursault 1er Cru. Monsterously rich and nutty on the nose, full bodied and buttery on the palate but with a gorgeous lean clean minerality on the finish. I am absolutely positively blown away.
And yet earlier I was a bag of nerves before cracking it opening. The fact that I've had bad luck with some mature rack wines recently meant the tension was palpable.
A wine that's been with me for such a long time, one of the first 'fine' wines I ever bought. It was delicious when young but how would a £20 Aussie Chardonnay stand up to over 6 years in my wine rack?! Turns out...phenomenally well.
Once again reinforcing the argument that screw caps are just as good for ageing wines than cork...If you like Burgundy or Californian Chardonnay I urge you to try this wine, young or mature, to see for yourself just how elegant & classy Australian Chardonnay can be.
